Every year at least 1 of our clients suffers pain (lost emails, added expense or simple inconvenience) when their domains are “renewed” by rogue companies. A short explanation:
Your internet domain controls your website, your emails and eases your remote access (for both your IT people and your staff). Your domain is not your actual website, nor is it your email mechanisms.. it is the 2 or 3 year license to use the name across the internet. For example groupsupport.com.au is registered with Melbourne IT - our website is hosted by itomic.com and our email is handled internally. The latest series of scams come from a company calling itself “Domain Registry of America” .. they take your money and your website registration (license). With your registration they can then do pretty much whatever they like posing as your on-line company - with the name, email and website. (see here for other opinions on these scams) Be careful about such renewals, and if you receive an advice (or a demand for money) then check with us first. And if you’d like us to note when your registration is due, we can audit all requests and advise on the best deals available. |
