We recently came across an interesting article discussing the way in which scammers ‘pick off the weak members of the herd’ so to speak. The article is available here https://itservices.wp.st-andrews.ac.uk/2019/06/06/the-clever-reason-scammers-cant-spell/
The article suggests that the misspelled scam emails we all receive are an intentional tool to differentiate those whom they are unlikely to be successful in scamming.
This is an interesting theory and arguments could be made that this is a valid strategy and something to be mindful of particularly amongst our more vulnerable internet users.
Arguments however could also be made that scammers would capture more of the population by choosing to make the best possible scam with flawless spelling.
Nonetheless, it is interesting to consider their tactics and as a reminder to be vigilant whilst interacting with the digital space.
