Medibank Data Hack Worsens

GroupSupport is monitoring the developments surrounding Medibank as they continue to develop. Medibank has now confirmed that all 4 million customer’s details were stolen. Making this breach significantly worse than the Optus breach.
The hack has been reported to the appropriate authorities and Medibank are working with the Australian Cyber Security Agency.
Customer records exposed include the following:
- First names and surnames
- Addresses
- Dates of birth
- Medicare numbers
- Policy numbers
- Phone numbers
- Data from claims made to the insurer
- Where customers received medical treatment
- *The hacker claims to have credit card data but this is not confirmed by Medibank*

Medibank Private Data Unusual Activity

GroupSupport is monitoring the developments surrounding Medibank reporting some customer-facing systems experiencing unusual activity.
“Medibank Private said on Thursday it will isolate and remove access to some customer-facing systems as it detected unusual activity on its network.
The company said it took “immediate steps to contain the incident, and engaged specialised cybersecurity firms”, adding that there was no evidence that any sensitive data, including customer data, had been accessed at this stage.
